On Thursday (23/01/2020) night, at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater hosted the “People 2020” awards ceremony, which honored and awarded the people who made the most resonance in society last year for their work and achievements. The man of science of the year became Aurimas Vyšniauskas, a scientist of the Molecular Department of Physics of the Center of Physical and Technological Sciences, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, author of the discovery that can help to cure incurable diseases.

Jesumine Anagbo Temienor from Nigeria is a second year Master’s student at the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences pursuing degree in Geology. In addition to theoretical knowledge and practical experience at the faculty’s lab, he took Erasmus + traineeship opportunity last summer. Jesumine interned at two different companies in Slovenia and also collaborated with the Faculty of Geology at the University of Ljubljana. He is graduating next year and plans to continue his studies to a PhD level.

On 24–27 September, an international multidimensional event presenting the opportunities offered by Lithuanian institutions of higher education, in particular Vilnius University, was held at Karaganda Medical University in Kazakhstan. This meeting was a part of an EU-funded project to promote study opportunities in Lithuania. The events were actively attended by students and researchers from Karaganda State A.E. Buketov University, Karaganda Technical University, and Karaganda Medical University.

On  September 18-20, an international event – “Baltic Polymer Symposium 2019” -  was held in Vilnius.  As the chairman of the conference organizing committee Prof. Ričardas Makuška noted at the opening ceremony,  the “Baltic Polymer Symposium 2019” is a great opportunity for young scientists and doctoral students to present their scientific achievements, share their experience and discover new opportunities for collaboration.

Nordplus is a Nordic-Baltic international cooperation program promoting student and teacher mobility. Aldas Jacas, a third year geography student at Vilnius University, learned about this project while it was held in Lithuania. “After the project there was very good feedback on the activities that it organizes, I learned about the possibilities to make international contacts and the opportunity to deepen my geographic knowledge,” says Aldas, and we continue to talk about his own experience with Nordplus in Iceland.
